Thy Will Be Done ,a comedy drama , was penned by Michael Carey. This play is set in the West of Ireland in the late 1990s. It is centred around two brothers who haven’t spoken to each other in forty years , one is a “spitting ould weasel” and the other is “an antichrist” according to the home help, Bridie. When young Martin arrives from America to try life in Ireland with his father and his uncle we get to see the small minded and gossip driven community in which they reside. But when Martin queries the reason for the bitterness between his father and uncle it is Bridie who warns him that it’s dangerous territory and that “it’s better to let the past rest in peace”. Equally funny and poignant this play is a classic true to life story that reflects a facet of Irish life not unusual even in today’s modern world. A rat is still a rat!!
