Festival Tours - organised by Nicholas Furlong

Wexford Festival Opera Tours are conducted under the auspices of Wexford Historical Society to places of historical, geographical and environmental significance by specialists.

All tours are scheduled to depart at 10.30 sharp from theTalbot Hotel car park, Trinity Street, Wexford each morning and return to Wexford by 13.00.

Own transport necessary, car pooling recommended to assist other visitors and reduce our environmental impact.

Saturday 22nd October
A fortified church at the buried city of Bannow, Bannow House and the Augustinian foundation of Grantstown with author and historian Bernard Browne.

Tuesday 25th October
Wexford town walking tour of Places of Worship - St.Patricks, the Friary, a hidden gem on Waterloo Road, the little chapel in the Presentation Convent, Rowe Street Church and the former Methodist chapel with author and historian Eithne Scallan.


Wednesday 26th October
The Johnstown Agricultural Museum with its Chairman Peter Miller and international soil ecologist Dr Austin O’Sullivan.

Thursday 27th October
Two most significant buildings in Enniscorthy - it’s castle and cathedral. the recently renovated and restored eight hundred year old castle contains exhibits tracing the development of the castle and that of the town from Anglo-Norman times through to the twentieth century. Saint Aidan’s Cathedral designed by Gothic Revival Architect, AWN Pugin and built in 1846 is considered by many to be his finest work in Ireland. With historian and librarian Jarlath Glynn.

Friday 28th October
A walking tour of Wexford looking at the silent witnesses of the town - historic tree trail from the Faythe to Redmond Park with author and tour guide Monica Crofton.

Saturday 29th October
Ancient places of worship - Mayglass, Tomhaggard and the Windmill at Tachumshin with chairman of Wexford historical Society Brian Matthews.

Tuesday 1st November
The Irish national heritage Park with director Maura Bell - Browne.

Wednesday 2nd November
Visit to the seaside fishing village of Kilmore Quay with its ancient rocks at Farlorn Point, magnificent sand dune system at Ballyteige Burrow and extensive drainage works on the agripolders at Inish and Balleteige Slob. With author and naturalist Jim hurley.

Thursday 3rd November
Historic pubs of Wexford town with librarian and historian Celestine Rafferty.

Friday 4th November
The new County Hall and its art collection with art historian Mairead Furlong & author and historian Nicky Furlong.
